Why Kids’ Yoga?
Yoga has many therapeutic benefits and can easily be incorporated into any setting to enhance a child’s learning. Classes at Small Talk Pediatric Therapy are taught by a certified yoga instructor who also happens to be an ASHA certified Speech Language Pathologist. The yoga classes are expertly designed to support social-emotional development, speech/language development, and sensory-motor development.
Your child’s well-being, social skills, confidence, and capacity for learning will be optimized with a consistent yoga practice. Kids’ yoga helps calm the mind and body, allowing children to be more receptive to learning new information. Since there is an established link between motor skill development and language development, kids’ yoga can simultaneously have a positive impact on both.
- Kids’ yoga can help children integrate sensory information more effectively. Additionally it provides a context in which language concepts can be targeted (following directions, spatial concepts, body parts, etc.)
- Children can act out and retell stories in yoga classes using animal postures, thereby improving narrative and story-telling skills.
- Kids’ yoga appeals to and reinforces all learning styles including kinesthetic, auditory, and visual.
